Lisa Schrader: The Meaning of Life… say “Yes” to it

1Excellence Reporter: Lisa, what is the meaning of life?

Lisa Schrader: I think the meaning of life is to love it.

Because it’s a miracle that we’re even here. One ancestor after another in our lineage some how found themselves saved in the massacre, alive after the epidemic, still breathing under the rubble. They were lucky or plucky enough to survive and pass along their DNA to a child who grew, loved and multiplied. Who then passed along millions of seeds that somehow found the one egg who was ready, ripe and said, “Yes. You are the one. Yes you.”

Why are we here? Karma. Chance. Destiny. Purpose. Some kind of chaotic harmony that lined up to bring us here for a brief blip on this planet.

It’s a gift of the rarest kind! I think we’re here to love and enjoy life. To make something sacred and beautiful of it and to know, no matter what our choices or creations, that it is ours alone to make.

The “meaning” question comes from the mind. And as such, it bores me a bit. In my feminine experience, I’m far more interested in riding this question deeper into my other intelligence centers: body, heart and soul.

It seems to me in order to love life, you have to say “Yes” to it. Be in your body. Feel the sun hot on your naked skin. Taste the melting brie and crisp wet of the green apple. Smell the lavender crushed between your fingers. Surrender to the ache of longing, the grief of loss, the ecstasy of orgasm.

My model for loving life is summed up by a sacred Sanskrit word: Shakti, divine feminine life force. My work is all about staying intimate with the Shakti pulsing in my body, heart and soul. And to help others do the same.

I am a privileged white woman, living in affluent Northern California. I’ve had my struggles but my life is abundantly blessed with love, passion, creativity and community. I honestly don’t know why I am here with this mission of Awakening Shakti when so many suffer, just trying to survive. It breaks my heart. I do know, while I’m here, I’m committed to helping others grow, to serving the divine to the best of my ability, to living and loving full out. Because I do know that this is my part to play in the great unfolding and dismantling.

And when I’m gone, maybe some will say that this world was changed in little or big ways by my presence, my willingness to love, celebrate pleasure, create beauty, walk with the sacred. Maybe they will say, “For her, the meaning of life was to love it. And love it she did.”
