Shifu Shi Yan Gui: The Meaning of Life and Ending Suffering

Excellence Reporter: Shifu Yan Gui, what is the meaning of life?

Shifu Shi Yan Gui: “Your work is to discover your world and then with all your heart give yourself to it.”

As a Buddhist I have learnt the main aim of life is to end the suffering, we all suffer because we frequently attempt to cling on to the things that do not give us lasting happiness. Learning how to live without attachment will lessen the suffering.

Life could have a different meaning to every individual, we all see the life as we think of it, although I believe we are born to seek knowledge and find our purpose in this world. Life is to keep on searching, creating new days, new nights with new ideas, life is beautiful, life is like a fireplace, if you turn it on the dance of the flames are visible from all directions.

With all the above in mind:

Don’t take it for granted
Meditate every day
Don’t fear death, live
Try to make the world a better place
Love and help unconditionally
Be kind to all creatures, specially to unkind people as they need it most
Wake early and embrace the day
