Elizabeth Weber: The Meaning of Life and the Inner Voice

IMG_0724Nicolae Tanase: Elizabeth, what is the meaning of life?

Elizabeth Weber: I think of it all as one giant puzzle. Each of us have our own piece to fit in. If we are true to the calling of our Souls and the gifts that we came here with, then our puzzle piece fits in perfectly.

However, many of us, can’t or won’t listen to that voice leading us on our paths. We stopped listening, or ignored the voice from the very beginning. Maybe we let other voices talk and shout over our own voices. We knew we were meant to dance, but another’s voice told us that dancing was silly, or frivolous, or couldn’t possibly pay the bills, or wasn’t respectable or honorable. Any movement on our part to follow that inner voice is met with fear and derision from the people in our lives. They act from a false sense of love, ‘protecting’ us from unpaved paths and the possibility of stumbling, but also the possibility of flight.

Or maybe we are travelling in a state of fear and therefore unwilling to step off the comfortable paved road with all of its safety signs and bright lights to ‘lead’ the way. We have become unwilling to step on our paths of promise and ultimate fulfillment.

Perhaps all the examples we had growing up were from souls who didn’t listen to their own voices. Maybe we were taught, indoctrinated, into believing that voice inside us was false or a trickster.

There is a quote by the author, Tom Robbins, that I have always loved…. “There are times when we feel destiny close around us like a fist around a doorknob. Sure, we can resist. But a knob that won’t turn, a door that sticks and never budges, is a nuisance to the gods. The gods may kick in the jamb. Worse, they may walk away in disgust, leaving us to hang dumbly from our tight hinges, deprived of any other chance in life to swing open into unnecessary risk and thus into enchantment.”

I feel that the majority of us are stuck on our tight hinges, afraid to let possibility in and the breezes of our dreams fill us.

But, what if….

What if we swung open our doors? What if we heeded that inner voice and let it guide us even when our brains are convinced it is totally lost and has absolutely no sense of direction. What if we had the courage to stay on our path even when it becomes dark and full of unknown shadows?

I believe that if we did, if we truly listened, the Universe would send us clues on how to follow our path. It would open doors and windows to our dreams, creating opportunities for unlimited growth and possibilities. If we honored our personal piece of the puzzle, our basic needs would be met. We could follow our dreams, the calling of our Hearts and Souls, and be truly happy and fulfilled.

So, I think the meaning of life is to live boldly. To move forward despite the artificial caution and danger signs society has erected. To dance even when no one else can hear our music. To love without conditions, and to live without regrets. To let our Hearts, choose instead of our fearful intellect. To powerfully create the life, we were meant to live. To hear, listen to, heed, and trust our inner voice.

To embrace our individual piece of the Universal puzzle and know from deep within that we ‘fit’ even when we can’t see the whole picture.

I, personally, have chosen to listen to that voice and live a creative life. And, when first creating my artist website I chose a name that would remind me each and every time what I am meant to do.
