Nicolae Tanase: John, what is the meaning of life?
John Freedom: There is obviously no single answer to this question. There are as many ‘Meanings of Life” as there are people; and each person will answer this question differently.
One reason why some people feel depressed is because they may think/feel that their lives are ‘meaningless.’ Meaning is something that each of us must find, and to some extent create, for himself.
We have the power and the responsibility to create meaning for ourselves. And so, we have the power to create happy meanings or sad meanings, beautiful or ugly meanings, gentle and compassionate meanings or painful and abusive meanings, inspired and uplifted meanings or degrading and humiliating meanings. The meaning/s we create for ourselves — how we ‘see’ ourselves; and how we ‘see’ others — helps define who we are, how we feel and how we express in the world.
We define and create (and re-create) ourselves through the meanings we create: to some extent, we ARE the meanings we create.
