Excellence Reporter: Randy, what is the meaning of life?
Randy Taran: We are perched on a planet, spinning in the galaxy amidst unimaginable vastness, and at the same time we are also the center of our very own universe. When we are in our head, we feel the limitations of our thoughts, beliefs and the stories we have grown to favor. But when we dip into the more eternal part of ourselves, the part that transcends time and space, the part that merges with the mystery of life, there are no boundaries, no limitations.
The meaning of life has to do with straddling these two realities: the inner landscape and the outer hustle and bustle world, and both are powered by the energy of creation, love, and growth. Life is dynamic, always changing, and so are we. Our emotions are tirelessly giving us messages to propel us forward, when we take the time to listen.
Sorrow leads to stillness and resetting priorities. Anger can be harnessed for social justice and to create healthy boundaries. Guilt can help us recalibrate with our core values, and desire is rocket fuel for our dreams. The challenge of this lifetime is to understand the emotional cues and work with them to grow into who we came here to be: unique, quirky, impassioned, and alive. What makes your soul sing, what keeps you up at night, what fans your spark into a flame that can light not only your way, but the path of others too? We are much more than our bodies. Everyone has a gift and our job, privilege and highest expression is to share it. Call it meaning, generosity, joy, life expanding into itself…
Each one of us has the chance to become aware of our emotional guidance system, to watch the hijinks of the mind with amusement, to cultivate profound relationships and to leave this earth a little better than we found it. One act of kindness, one moment of gratitude, one act of cracking through the shell of perceived limitations… We are here to expand the energy of love, and are born with the capacity to do so, each as our unique snowflake, each with the capacity to cut through the illusions that would keep us small, each with the spark of inspiration that can fuel any trajectory.
From inner awareness to our outer journey, the meaning of life is to engage with this opportunity: to feel the good, grow through the challenges, and maybe help others along their way too. If you had a month to live, what would you do with it, what would you express, what would rise as a priority?
The meaning of life is to use our energy to expand all that is. This life is a blink in the span of the eons. Let us use this time recognizing the privilege of what it is to be fully alive.
