Excellence Reporter: Dr. Naranjo, what it the meaning of life?
Claudio Naranjo: Questions about of meaning of life are prompted by its loss, which derives from the loss of oneself; or, as it is sometime said, by the loss of our “soul”.
Finding the meaning of life has little to do with finding arguments concerning the meaning of suffering or the possible reasons for which a divine being may have for willing our existence.
The meaning of life is found in the experience of Being, and the answer of the meaning of life lies in the recovery of the knowledge of being.
Short of that, the meaning of life lies in the search of being, which is not only a yearning but an involvement in a process of psycho-spiritual development. It’s as if we had been sent to a lower world on a mission to find a way of returning to the high place from which we have fallen.
In other words: The meaning of life is completing a cycle of “fallenness” (Falling) and returning; in the recovery from the disintegration of our mind through our work of reintegration; in our healing from the sickness of common humanity; in the victory over the forces of our obscuration.
