Excellence Reporter: Jim, what is the meaning of life?
Jim Brickman: Stevie Wonder said, “We all have ability. The difference is how we use it.”
I think the meaning of life is discovering our abilities, enjoying them and sharing them. We aren’t meant to live in a bubble. We are affected by the people who come in and out of our life. It can be for better or for worse. In turn, we are affecting them as well.
I love sharing my music and feel rewarded when I hear how much it is appreciated. It’s amazing to think that something as simple as a melody can have such an impact on people’s emotions and lives. Music is the antidote for chaos. Whether it affects love, comfort, contemplation, relaxation or pure enjoyment, if the listener relates in some way to my music, it brings more meaning to my life than I could ever have imagined.
