Tom Asacker: The Meaning of Life and Shaping Our Character

tom-media-photo1 (1)What is the meaning of life? Shakespeare wrote,

“All the world’s a stage,
And all the men and women merely players;
They have their exits and their entrances,
And one man in his time plays many parts.”

We can’t always control the parts we play, nor the various stages and evolving plots. But we can shape our character by the beliefs we hold and the decisions we make.

And that character development? Bravely pursuing what turns us on, while living gently and loving passionately?

That’s the purpose and meaning of life!

  1. It’s a curious question. The word choice always surprised me: “meaning”. They could say what is the point or purpose. They could say what is the colour? What is the smell? But all of these would try to put it in a frame, in a box. Nothing seems to provide as much room for interpretation as “meaning”, and probably that’s the point.
