Excellence Reporte: Tessa, what is the meaning of life?
Tessa Greenleaf: I don’t believe that there is one all-encompassing meaning of life. We must each evaluate our own goals, hopes, and desires to identify what will bring us joy and satisfaction. Perhaps that wasn’t the answer you wanted to hear, but each of us has a unique soul and purpose, and we have to be true to those individual qualities.
In The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy the supercomputer Deep Thought is asked: “What is the answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe, and everything?” After 7.5 million years Deep Thought responded: 42. Why is that answer so meaningless? Because people didn’t ask the right question.
Instead of asking about the over-arching meaning of life, ask yourself: “What will make me happy?” It’s a more difficult question to answer than you might expect, but it will lead you to examine your own personal meaning of life.
