Excellence Reporter: Dr. Feiner, what is the meaning of life?
Stacy Feiner: I love this question. It is age old. Timeless. It’s enormous and simple. It is never inconsequential.
First it conjures up feelings, senses and images: the image of the brilliant night sky in Maine in the summer, the sound of my voice echoing in the canyons of Colorado, and the feeling of love when my children come to hug me for no apparent reason. That is how I feel the meaning of life.
When I think about the meaning of life I am reminded of a time early in my relationship with my now husband when I wondered if maybe I would choose not to have children arguing that the world wasn’t good enough, wasn’t safe enough for a new life. It was in deep thought that I realized, it’s a privilege to walk the planet no matter what condition it is in. It is what you make of it.
